The Prague Rock Garden Club (KSP) was formed in 1970 as a subsidiary of the Czech Gardening Association. It serves admirers of mountain flora and growers of rock garden plants, shade and water plants as well as dwarf trees and bushes. After the Pilsen Rock Garden Club, the Prague Club is the oldest organization of its kind in our country. At present, it has some 600 – 700 members; about 10% are from abroad. The Club is listed in the Register of nongovernmental, nonprofit organizations.
The best known activities of the Club are its three yearly exhibits of plants, adjacent to the Prague’s Karlovo namesti. Lectures of interest to rock gardeners are presented, usually at the Novotneho lavka in the Old Town. Other significant activities are the publication of a quarterly journal Skalnicky and the annual seed exchange. For members, the Club operates a specialized library, organizes local and foreign trips as well as meetings in different parts of the country.
